The Chaparral Cup

A crossfit competition series for Teens and MASTERS

Golf plays for the Ryder Cup…. Hockey skates for the Stanley Cup… Sailing takes to the seas for America’s Cup and Stock cars race for the NASCAR Cup.  Competing for a “Cup” is among the most challenging tests in the history of sport.  On June 3rd 2017, fitness-crazed competitors will gather at Crossfit Chaparral to begin their quest for the CHAPARRAL CUP.  Athletes will not be competing for medals, swag or other trinkets that will collect dust on the shelves.  They will be vying to take home the CHAPARRAL CUP.  Winners will take custody of the Cup for a year at which time they will return to defend it.  Each year, the winners will have their names engraved on the Cup as they make a permanent mark on the history of fitness! The quest for the Chaparral Cup is on…Only the fittest will hoist it on November 4th!

WOD 1 Stairway to Heaven

Ground to Overhead Ladder

Objective: To get as far through the ladder as fast as possible.  Once max weight is reached then lifting for max reps at that weight in the remaining time.

Concept:  Athletes can execute either a clean and jerk or snatch to get the weight from ground to overhead.  Athletes must perform a successful lift at each prescribed weight before moving up the ladder.  Athletes can make more than one attempt at each weight if necessary.  For the teen cup divisions, the athlete’s score will be the max weight successfully lifted. The number of reps completed at the heaviest weight lifted will be the first tie break.  The time of the first rep at the heaviest weight lifted will be the second tie break. For the College and Master’s Cup team divisions the score is the total of the max weights lifted by both team members. The first tiebreaker is the total load lifted at max weight by the team and the second tie break is the time of the first rep of the max weight lifted by each team member.

WOD 2: Cup Runneth Over

Objective: To get as many rounds + reps/points/load as possible in the allotted time.

Concept: This chipper style workout will test athletes metabolically with the row and burpee box jump-overs, for weight with the snatches and wall balls, and gymnastically with pull movement options.  The two for load movements—DB snatches and wall balls–no Rx weight is prescribed.  Athletes must decide what weights they want to move–heavier for less reps or lighter for more reps.   For the snatches each individual teen and same gender team gets 1 dumbbell at the weight of their choice. Co-ed teams get 2 dumbbells.  For the gymnastic pulling movements, the athletes do their choice of movement until the total points are met.  Only 1 athlete is working at a time.  Athletes must split the calories/reps/load/points evenly among teammates. Tagging is not required.

Teen Cup Divisions:

AMRAP 12

40 cal row

For load–alternating single arm DB snatch (1400#/1000#) *

25 Burpee Box Jump overs (24”/20”)

For points—Pull-ups, ring rows (40 points) **

For load—Wall balls (800#/560#)***

*Round to nearest even rep. Load calculated at boys snatching 35# for 40 reps and girls lifting a 20# DB for 40 reps

**2 points for pull-ups (20 reps); 1 points for ring rows (40 reps)

***Calculated for 40 reps with 20#/14# wall balls

College/Master’s Cup Divisions:

AMRAP 14

60 cal row

For load–alternating single arm DB snatch (3000#/2100#) *

40 Burpee Box Jump overs (24”/20”)

For points—Chest to bar pull-ups, pull-ups, ring rows (150 points) **

For load—Wall balls (1200#/840#)***

*Round to nearest even rep. Totals calculated at males lifting 50# for 60 reps and females lifting 35# for 60 reps)

**3 points for C2B pull-ups (50 reps), 2 points for pull-ups (75 reps); 1 point for ring rows (150 reps)

***Calculated for 60 reps with 20/14# wall balls

WOD 3: Running thru Quicksand

Objective:  To lift the max load for each weighted movement and to complete the entire workout as fast as possible.

Concept:  For the Teen Cup Division, athletes will have 1 minute to overhead squat for max load. At the end of the minute the athletes will immediately run 400m.  Upon run completion they will then do 1 minute of barbell front rack in-place lunges for max load.  Upon completion of their lunges they will then carry 1 KB for 200m.

For the College and Master’s Cup Divisions athletes will have 2 minutes to overhead squat for max load. One athlete works at a time. Each same gender team gets one barbell and picks a single weight for all reps.  Each co-ed team gets two barbells. Athletes can split reps however they want. At the end of the 2 minutes the athletes will both immediately run 400m.  Once both members complete the run, they will then do 2 minutes of barbell front rack in-place lunges for max load.   It can be at a different weight than their overhead squats. One athlete works at a time.   Upon completion of their lunges, they will then carry 1 KB for 400m at the weights below.    For scoring purposes teams will receive two equally weighted rankings for this workout–one for total load lifted and one for time.

Teen Cup Divisions:

For time and total load lifted:

1:00 max load overhead squats

400m run

1:00 max load front rack in-place lunges

200m KB carry  (35/25)

Team College Cup Divisions:

For time and total load lifted:

2:00 max load overhead squats

400m run

2:00 max load front rack in-place lunges

400m KB carry (1.5P/45# (Co-ed teams)/1P)

Team Masters Cup Divisions:

For time and total load lifted:

2:00 max load overhead squats

400m run

2:00 max load front rack in-place lunges

400m KB carry (1.5P/45# Co-ed teams/1P)
